Sound Sector is an independent editorial project covering VST and AU plugin reviews, free instruments, DAW workflows, sample libraries and sound design technique. We respect the labour that goes into building presets, sample packs, impulse responses and recorded material, and we expect the same standard from ourselves. If something published here infringes your copyright, send a properly formed notice and we will review it and act on it without fuss.

All infringement complaints, takedown requests and counter-notices should go to a single channel, so that nothing gets buried among review pitches and press mail.

What a Valid Takedown Request Should Contain

To let us act quickly, please include all of the following. Notices missing any element may be returned for completion.

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work you believe is being infringed — title, release or catalogue reference, and registration details if you have them. Where several works are involved, a representative list is acceptable.
  2. Identification of the material on our site that you want removed, with enough detail for us to locate it: the exact page URL, embedded player, or download link, plus the file name where relevant.
  3. Your contact information: full legal name, postal address, telephone number, and a working email address.
  4. A statement that you hold a good-faith belief the disputed use is not authorised by the rights owner, its representative, or the law.
  5. A statement made under penalty of perjury that the details in your notice are accurate and that you own the rights concerned or are authorised to act for the owner.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature.

Counter-Notice Procedure

If your material was taken down and you believe the removal was a mistake — a preset bank or sample set you created yourself, for instance — you may file a counter-notice at the same address. Include your contact details, identification of the removed content and where it appeared, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by error or misidentification, and your consent to the jurisdiction of a competent court. We will pass the counter-notice to the original complainant and may restore the content if no legal action follows.

How Long We Take

Once a complete notice reaches us, we aim to acknowledge it and finish our review within 5–10 business days. Incomplete submissions — broken links, no signature, vague descriptions of the work — take considerably longer, so please check your notice before sending it.
